Clare Emily Exhibition

June 2026

Clare is a British artist from London, UK.

She draws on the British coastline for most of her inspiration, spending a lot of time on the south coast – land and sea. Here she finds contentment, like many, in witnessing the invisible force of nature, its power and ubiquity but also its fragility.

Rarely does she seek to copy a specific place visually, rather, to embrace an atmosphere evoked by the weather-state, time of day, season, level of light and so on. Guided by intuition, her process is one of exploration and experimentation, heavily working layers of acrylic with a palette knife until a loose form appears. From there, the finer details emerge and the work gains depth and an aesthetic quality.

Clare’s newest body of work is a distillation of core elements of the seascapes that have long defined her style, seeking to capture the rhythm, energy and atmosphere of the sea through abstraction.

She regularly exhibits her work both in London and the south of England and is proud to be represented by George Gallery in Brighton.

Clare is a self-taught painter, having originally trained as a cellist.
